CM orders new committee to re-examine IGMC incident

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, while presiding over a meeting of the Health Department here today, directed the constitution of a new committee to re-look into the IGMC incident. He said that the State Government is committed to ensuring adequate security for doctors and other staff, while making it clear that any inappropriate behaviour with patients will not be tolerated.

The Chief Minister instructed the department to introduce mandatory courses on human behaviour and management skills for doctors to uphold professional ethics. He also said the government is considering incorporating marks in the Annual Confidential Reports (ACR) of doctors for good behaviour with patients.

Shri Sukhu added that incidents of misbehaviour by patients or attendants should be promptly reported to senior officers. He said the State Government is filling vacant posts of doctors and paramedical staff to ensure smooth functioning of health institutions. Hundreds of posts have already been filled and more recruitments will be carried out in the coming time.

The Chief Minister further said that the government is also contemplating incentives for highly qualified doctors to attract more specialists to the public health sector.

Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil, Secretary Health Sandeep Kadam, Director Medical Education Dr. Rakesh Sharma, Director Health Services Dr. Gopal Berry, Special Secretaries Dr. Ashwani Sharma and Jitender Sanjta, along with other senior officers, were present in the meeting.
